What I learnt from PPD?

PPD is process designed to enable us to think about, and plan for, our own personal, academic and career development.

Through the 1st semester of our 1st year we could face lot of activities to recognize the skills and abilities we have and improve those skills and abilities.

At kelaniya Temple with my group members

At the very 1st day of our PPD session, we had to introduce ourselves to the class. It is the first presentation of ours. There after, through our PPD sessions we had so many activities. Most of them are team works. We could learn lot of things from our PPD sessions. Such as, work as a team member, making decisions as a team with the participation of all members. And it was an enjoyable time for us during our PPD lecture.

As team activities, we had to make a paper tower as I described in my previous article. It was a nice teamwork. Then, we had another teamwork related to the culture. We had to create our own culture and present it to the class. It was an amazing activity. We created our own cultures. It taught us, how to think creatively as a team. In this activity we had to take ideas from all the members ans combine it together to get the best creation.

What we learnt from this activity is thinking creatively and making good decisions as a team.

At very last day of our PPD sessions, Miss Sarasi conducted us about achieving our life goals. Which belongs to our personal, academic and professional lives. It was very significant for us and thinking about future goals.

Such that we could learn much good things in our PPD sessions.

Paper Tower

Do you know? The experience of working as a team is a worthy opportunity for both of our academic and professional lives. We can improve some soft skills of ours by working as a team.

Communicate with each other

I think "The Paper Tower" activity is a great example for working as a team, which conducted by Miss Sarasi in our ppd sessions on 10th Monday July. But unfortunately I missed the activity in that day. I'm so regret about missing this opportunity.

As my friends told me, there were 3 groups to make 3 paper towers severally. And Miss sarasi gave them 12 A4 sheets, a scissor and a sellotape for each team. They had to make a paper tower using those materials.

They had to consider about both of the height and the creativity of the paper tower. Its base should be strong. Firstly, each team had to discuss with all the members, how to build the paper tower strongly.

It was a great challenge for all the three groups. Though all the teams could make the paper towers within 40 minutes. They were different by height. As I knew, this activity was helpful for improving our soft skills such as, how to work as a member of a team and how to get right decisions con-sensually as a team.

What is PPD?

Personal Progress Development is a process designed to enable us to think about, and plan for our own. Personal, academic and career development.

As university students, throughout our degree we will be encouraged by PPD to reflect on our progress and achievements and to identify areas we wish to develop and improve on.

PPD helps us to recognize the skills and abilities we are developing during our studies and to recognize how these skills and abilities are transferable to other contexts.

Also it helps us to identify areas we want and need to improve and develop and improve our employability and plan for our future career.

At very first day of our PPD session, we had to present ourselves in the presence of class for 2 minutes. It was a good opportunity to all of us to recognize our presentation ability. Some of us, including me couldn't use all the 2 minutes. And we could realize our status of presenting. It was very good occasions for us to start improving our soft skills.

Then we had a lot of team works our PPD sessions. They were very useful for us to improve a lot of good qualities of ours. Such as the way of thinking as a team member, how to get instant decisions as a team and how work as a team as well.

I'll explain some of activities in my next articles.
